About

Welcome to my webpage. I am Drew Misocky, an aspiring cybersecurity professional. Growing up with technology has developed my passion for computers and the Internet, which I use daily. I see value in protecting the Internet as a valuable resource and data stored on digital devices as it has real-world implications. My actions aim to help secure our digital world and sustain the systems that power our modern world. These systems provided me with so much in terms of learning, connecting, and entertainment.

I have always had a particular interest in how things work and function. From our digital devices to our physical systems, I'm curious and seek to understand the things around me daily. This curiosity started early on in my life with an interest in games and how they worked. I learned to code in Java at the age of 12. Soon after this, I would learn more about computers and hardware. Learning about hardware would begin with me building my first personal computer at 13. Leading to me tearing down and fixing other electronics like controllers and old computers. Following this, I would do some minor electrical work, like installing light fixtures and switches. I got into cars and how they worked when I got my first car, figuring out how they worked and how to fix them from the ground up. This passion for vehicles would lead me to work at an automotive parts store, furthering my knowledge of the mechanical and electrical systems that compose them. I maintained this job while I was getting my degree at Lander University. After graduating from Lander with a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity, I am now looking to get more involved in IT, which is where my passion lies.

Skills

I have developed many skills in different areas throughout my life and time at university. I have worked with multiple operating systems, such as Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X. I have the most experience with Windows, as it is my primary choice of OS. I've created multiple different programs through languages such as Java, Python, C, and C++. I have used many specific programs for analysis, like Wireshark, Nmap, Snort, and Hex Workshop. Have an understanding of binary and hexadecimal, as well as encryption methodologies. I've simulated environments through Packet Tracer and virtualization. Understand network elements, including subnetting, DNS, port forwarding, protocols, ports, and the layers of packets. I have knowledge of fundamental principles and goals in cybersecurity, such as the CIA triad. Understand the types of attacks adversaries use and the types of viruses used. I have used methodologies such as the standards provided by NIST during mock digital investigations in class and recovered deleted data on drives through MS-DOS by recovering directory entries in the FAT file system structure. I created database schemes and used SQL to pull data from them. I understand the components of computer systems and how they interact. Can diagnose problems relating to software and hardware issues. I have developed skills in managing people through my work at O'Reilys and working in groups during my time at Lander.
